TREASURE ISLAND

I've been trying to filter through different classics to try and find something that i could write with gusto. I've always found myself most affected by Fairy Tales and Legends, because these tales tend to transcend across different cultures and affect them in different ways. They always have a great story of adventure and growth. Firstly I considered Alice in Wonderland, but quickly realised that EVERYBODY has done it. Although Treasure Island is well known and explored, all their main characters are men. I found it hard to connect with Jim Hawkins, although i enjoyed the story greatly, because it was a story about a young boy becoming a man. As a young girl, I enjoyed the thrills and maturity that Jim experienced, but could never really put myself in his shoes.

My thoughts are this; What if Jim Hawkins was a girl? Or better yet if there was a female character added to the story of treasure planet (I think that Jim and a female character could add another dimension to his growth to a man)? Perhaps Billy Bones' long lost daughter who wants a piece of that treasure? But the main focus of the rewrite would be about a young girl who must grow up in a world of men.

O.O

  2. COOOOL, JEAN HAWKINS!

I'm trying to decide what I think is cooler. I feel like it'd probably be easier to tell the story of a girl growing up in a world of men if you added a female character into the mix. But that being said, I reckon it'd be way cooler if she was this badass tough lady who was the main character herself...? Maybe?

    Just my thoughts homie.
