Commentary

The Hunger Games is a 2008 science fiction novel by the American writer Suzanne Collins. It is written in the voice of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem in North America.

I choose the film version not a printed. Because the film is more clearly show the theory of colonial. Moreover I think the Hunger Game is good example of press of death, oppression, starvation, and the effects of war among others. Also, I was adding a situation of suppression. Therefore I think that this story included a theory of colonial. Furthermore the story changed that Primrose Everdeen was added and her perspective.

Primrose Everdeen who is Katniss Everdeen’s sister, is a point of view character in my story. Primrose Everdeen is weak character. Also she is pressed of the death by Hanger Game. Moreover, she hopes that her sister, Katniss Everdeen, survives this game. However, Primrose didn’t do that. She always gets scared. I want to show the anxiety of the people and double-sidedness through the people. And opposite, Katniss’s character is self sacrifice on her younger sister. From beginning to end, she protects her sister and she is strong and fights against the fear. Lastly, Haymitch, he had experienced. He was an assistant the Everdeen’s sisters.

Rewrite- The Hunger Games.

From the Treaty of the Treason: In penance for their uprising, each district shall offer up a male or female between the ages of 12 and 18 at a public “Reaping.” These Tributes shall be delivered to the custody of the Capitol. And then transferred to a public arena where they will fight to the Death, until two victors remain. The two children can be different family. Henceforth and forevermore this pageant shall be known as The Hunger Games.

Screaming~!!!

Katniss Everdeen: Shhhh. It’s okay. It’s okay. You’re just dreaming. They’re not gonna pick you! Try to go to sleep.

I’m trying but I can’t. Today is the day….. Please not me. Please… Peace came at the end of a long war. However, only Panem can get the peace. The winner of a long war is Panem. As winner, Panem ask for game which is killing game. I don’t know why we participate in cursed game.

Katniss Everdeen: It’s okay like me.

She is like my mother. She doesn’t pick this game. I’m the last one.

Lotter: Welcome! Welcome!! Happy hunger games!! And may be the odds are ever in your favor.

Now we begin. The time has come for us to select sibling. For the honor of representing district 12 in the annual Hunger Games.  Primrose Everdeen!!!!  Where are you? Come on.

Oh….my….god……. it’s me… it’s me…… really me….. Katniss…what are we going to to…

Lotter: Everdeen sisters. Happy Hunger games.

Katniss Everdeen: It’s okay. We can survive to the last in the game.

Lotter: Let’s have a big hand for our tributes, Everdeen sisters.  Our tributes from district 12.

      Happy. Happy hunger games. And may be the odds be ever in your favor.

   You are so lucky because you get a chance for escape from this underdeveloped village. Moreover, you can get a main character of this festival.

So we were selected. Actually because of me. We gonna be dead.

Stepmother: What happen…… it can’t….

Katniss Everdeen: It’s ok.  You’re gonna be okay. The guy, he survived. So can we

Stepmother: sure, the guy, he is a winner!! He survived. just try to win, Maybe you can.

Katniss Everdeen: Maybe we can, we are smart. You know?

She reacted in a calm way in everything. She seemed to know that this would happen. It's all because of me. The guy must have died. He can’t survive. Never…

Katniss Everdeen: It’s not your fault.

Lotter: Let’s go. We don’t have much time. I’ll explain about this game. Do you know Capitol? Oh… sorry… too easy. It’s a wonderful city. In this train, 200 miles per hour and you can barely feel a thing. Haha, I think it’s rather a wonderful thing is about this opportunity that even though you’re here and even though it’s just for a litter while. You get to enjoy all of this. I’m going to find Haymitch.

 Katniss..  I’m sorry… so… sorry… because of me….

Katniss Everdeen: No… No…. we’re just out of luck. Don’t think about that. We will just think about surviving. We’re going to survive!! We can!

Haymitch: Hi. Ha…… hum…. Little girls, so young to play games. I’m your mentor. I’ll tell u something about how to survive, kill people and gain popularity. The Last thing is so important.   

First, you know we have 12 districts, and 2 tributes, so 24 people join the game. There’re siblings like you. Winner can be 2 people. However, it doesn’t matter if you in the same family. That is the fucking rule. Make crazy people. Second, the period of games is just 3 days. It is hopeful. It’s good. Last, if someone dies in the game, managers can tell you. Oh and before the game, you will be trained.

I don’t know what mean. I only know, I have 3 days before die in a ditch.

So we arrived at Capitol. This city is enormous, developed and many people in there. I think they don’t know what is starved and no concern like pick.

Haymitch: I told you before, now the game is starting.. Today we can know who the tributes are. Also we can be trained. At least you have to learn, how to defend.

Few days went past. I don’t know what it is? Where am I? Why am I here? What do I do?

The training reminded us of the real battle. Every day a lot of emotions went by, sometimes I think I can survive but also I could die. And there are others in a similar boat. However, the other people, they are really hard training for survive or kill people.

Thanks to the Katniss, I can shoot an arrow. She shot an arrow and it hit the mark every time.

I left home at first and shoot an arrow to kill people in recent days, even kill people in the same oven. Why should we kill people? The game is cursed. However, people called it the happy Hunger Game, happy….. We are not happy.

Katniss Everdeen: Hey, focuses on me. We cannot be dodged. Don’t think about that. It might be better if I take a simple approach. It is the devil’s games. But we can survive. Let’s work together. We can. I need you. You have to know how to shoot an arrow. If I’m injured or dead, you have to live, survive and you would get on with a better life.

Katniss is really hard to train. The day is approaching. May be I’m gonna be die. I can't stand just one day. But Katniss didn't do anything wrong…….

Katniss Everdeen: We can survive together! Ok?

Haymitch: It’s only a few minutes before starting. It’s just as well for know that shoot and arrow. So it gives us more hope to survive, really good.

Primrose Everdeen: hum… why….. Why am I doing the game? Can I just surrender? Panam is developed country. Why they hold the game? It’s just killing game, murder. I want to surrender.

Haymitch: I thought when I’m a tribute. However, the answer is simple. It is too simple to know that reason. We are a defeated country. Under the sin of rebellion, we’re all dead. However, we’re all live because we have to participate in this game. It’s better than dying.

Katniss Everdeen: It was too fearful and it was a misery for everyone.

Haymitch: …… People want to live, a part of our human Instinct.

Katniss Everdeen: We’ll survive any way I can.

Haymitch: Good good. But how? Do you have any idea?

How the two people would adapt rapidly as this? Why they have my life? I just.. live with my sister, whatever I’m starved or unrest. I just want to live….. It is impossible…….

Katniss Everdeen: We are going to hide. Just 3 days. We can hide.

Haymitch: Oh… It may be difficult. Sorry, I didn’t say that. They dominate all of the area. They can remove the water. Also they can make hot or cold weather. The important thing is that they don’t want this strategy.

Katniss Everdeen: So. How do I do? How do fight? We never win.

Haymitch: Ok...ok … if you want to avoid the fight, do that. However, how to survive the last day?

Last day, if you don’t stand the point as good as lost. Just end. Hu…. hey pretty, let’s think about other things we can do. For example, without hiding a long time in the same place. Please concentrate on the sound to inform them.

Primrose Everdeen: Is this game worth fighting for my life or is just better giving up..?

Don't wait for us on game day. Many people are waiting for this game, except me and few people like me.

The day starts the game.

Haymitch: They put all kind of stuff right in front. Right in the point, you know last winner point.

Katniss Everdeen:  I know, I know.

Haymitch: yes, there’ll even be a bow there. Don’t go for it.

Katniss Everdeen:  why not?

Haymitch: it’s a bloodbath, they’re trying to pull you in. It’s not your game. You just turn, run, and find a high ground. Look for water. Water’s your new best friend. And…. And……

Katniss Everdeen:  enough… thanks…

Haymitch: Don’t step off that pedestal earlier or they’ll blow you sky high.

Katniss Everdeen: I won’t

Haymitch: we can do this…

Katniss Everdeen: Thanks. Let’s go..

The game started. This game…. What happen to this game… how do I do?... I hope Katniss goes back to the hometown. It’s all my fault.

<Hunger games, now we are started!! >

I run for a while following my sister when I heard the voice of “Hunger game now started!” I’ve been running all the way. We don’t know where we’re going, just run away from the hell. Katniss took a bag before I knew it. We went up on the tree when the area around us is quiet. We need to know people's reactions.

After the few minutes, suddenly we hear the boom of the cannon.

Katniss Everdeen: There’s the familiar boom of the cannon which marks the end of another fallen Tributes. Haymitch told me that.

Primrose Everdeen: However, 10 tributes... are so many… died...

Katniss Everdeen: ….. It just started. 12 times more left to live together.

Oh. My. God. 10 people! Just first day…. That makes 10 gone in the first eight hours.

Katniss Everdeen: Keep focused!! We just started. Ok? Don’t give up. Never.

We are just waiting until the sun sets.

When the sun goes down, we decided to look for water, and move the safer place. Do they look at all of this? Many people are dying in this way, but I wonder they are watching just fun? Also, why should I do they want.

Katniss Everdeen: Wake up!! Focus on me!  Go down. Darkness will protect us. Move while paying attention, looking for water and also find a suitable place.

Primrose Everdeen: Yes….

We came down for find the water, It has not been possible to where to find the water. There was no water in the place. We thought that the water is in there, naturally but it’s not. Something very unusual happened. We can definitely find the water because we lived in backwoods. We know the mountains. Today, go to sleep on a tree because here are many big trees.

Katniss Everdeen: Look. Haymitch is right. They can do all that they want. They think that our plan is thwarted. It’s really hard to find water. However, I think this is mountain so there should be certainly valley and river. Let's find a place like that mainly.

We were able to spend the night on a high tree. It seems to be a little but wake up in loud sound. My sister was already awake. The sun is rising. Situation of under the tree is awful. Four or five people caught the young girl. The young girl is killed. For the first time in my life, I witnessed a murder. If my sister didn’t cover up my mouth then I would have made a loud screaming noise.

Katniss Everdeen: Shhhhhh..  There are in here under the tree. I think I seen alliance forming. We can use the arrow, because they just gone.

<Sound of cannon>

Tributes: Please don’t kill me. Oh no!.. hahahah did you heard that?

What will make this people as cruel? There’s life?? Or want to become a winner??

The second day has come. My thought is so complexity, getting more and more tangled. I’m just keep focused on survive both of Katniss and me.

Katniss Everdeen: Today we have to find some food and water. Let’s go down, we have arrow!! So we can find easier!

I shot an arrow with Katniss for hunting.  We also find water!

Katniss Everdeen: I think it is clear when I walking around, it’s not special mountain but, someone change the mountain like get rid of water or make a tree something like that. I think that they cannot eliminate everything and may be they can watch for all of our action.

We find the cave. We think that is safer than tree.

The cave is so comfortable.

Katniss Everdeen: Tomorrow I will go out and looking around here.

Primrose Everdeen: Yes… so... Katniss..?

Katniss Everdeen: Yes???? Why?

I want to say ‘sorry”, but I can’t.

Primrose Everdeen: Nothing…..

Katniss Everdeen: ok..! Take easy!

I had a good night's rest before the sound of cannon

Primrose Everdeen: Oh!!! . Katniss? Katniss????? Where are you?

I heard the cannon! But I can’t fine Katniss!!!

Katniss Everdeen: oH!!!! Prim!!! oH!!! Shit!!! Are you ok? Oh….  Sorry. I heard the sound. I worried about you’re related to this sound!!!..

Primrose Everdeen: Me too. I’m worried about you!!

I’m glad it is not related.

Katniss Everdeen: Oh! I saw the guys. You know the group! They are 5 people. So other people are 4!

Primrose Everdeen: Now are 3!

Katniss Everdeen: And I saw the important thing!  You know the group! They saved all the bags and weapon in the point. So I think we need to blow up the point. How about that?

Primrose Everdeen: Why should we do?

Katniss Everdeen: If we do that, we have the upper hand! Anyway last day, we must fight for survive!!

After we had to hunt for food, we hiding. I think it is dangerous for just hiding. Why they take risk. Why they just follow the rule. How long would I feel this fear? I have hope that we can survive in this game because just 2 days left! However, I feel that it is not possible to avoid the fight in last day! The last day is tomorrow…..

Katniss Everdeen: Three times!!!

Primrose Everdeen: What happen to other place!!!?

Katniss Everdeen: Today is last! So I think they are already fighting! So you stay here and wait for me! I’ll come back end of the fight.

Primrose Everdeen: No… I’ll with you! Everywhere I’ll go with you!!!  

Katniss Everdeen: Please! Listen to me!! Please!!!!

I thought that Katniss must keep alive to this game! But why do I accept…

Katniss went to there!!! I’m just walk to there…. slowly…. Too slowly…..

On the way there, I heard the sound of cannon four times. The fear suddenly came over me.

Upon arriving there, look everywhere!! But I can't find her anywhere. I find her! Already death...

I wail over the body of Katniss. A cutter knife is discovered near the body and she had wounds on her left stomach.

The two guys seems not good situation. Put up the bow and shoot them!! Fall down one after another. The sadness has been rushed to me. I hear the voice, the familiar voice…

“Ladies and gentleman, may I present the winner of the Hunger Game! District 12. Primrose Everdeen!!!!!

Why did I do…? Where is my Katniss….

I’m holding a knife. I want to finish, this complex of my thought.

Suddenly I thought that day. Why am I thought that day? That day I was always hungry and couldn’t sleep because I was scary for chosen this game. That day was the worst day of my life. I don’t know why I am thought that…

I pricked my stomach and I’m down next to her…… finally.... become a comfortable......  without anxiety and fear...  Something thought occurred to me. Why I am thought that day. Because that day, time to spend together.
