- The Queens Soprano - Carol Dines.
- There is a scene at the end which has an image of slaves chained on the decks of a ship, they have arrived in Rome (it's the 17th Century) to become slaves for the wealthy and to work the lands. I think it could be interesting to do a poem or short story about what they are thinking or the likes as the scene gives a good image that has stuck with me since I read it like 7 years ago or something!
- Because I collect quotes I actually have some of the quote from this scene. "As I stared at a huge vessel docked along the harbour, I saw dark-skinned men, chained on deck. Slaves, I realised. I couldn't read their faces. Couldn't read their hearts. But I knew… knew what it was not to choose for yourself. To have your fate chosen but someone else. I’d always believed that freedom came from rising up in society. But now I understood there were many kinds of freedom, and the most important for us is the freedom to look inside our own heart and speak the truths we find there." -Angelica, the Queens Soprano, Carol Dines.
- Another idea that has come from this book is the 'central' family has a servant called Lucia, she is featured a lot but you never really know what she is thinking or feeling about everything that is happening.
- The only problem with these is I'd have to get hold of the book and re-read it...

Ideas and Thoughts
I've been thinking a lot about what to do for the re-write and am struggling to think of things that I have read that I would be able to use. But I do have one idea, the only thing is I can't get hold of the book without buying it from America or the UK.

Hey Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI really like that quote. Might be hard to work in to the story though, seems like this Angelica of yours is able to see more than your archetypal inherently racist colonial-era character. Lucia sounds pretty interesting too. I'm looking forward to seeing how things unfold for you. Just buy the book man! www.bookdepository.co.uk. Free shipping! Yeah! Woooooo!
